Consortium for Street Children

Worldwide, millions of children live – and die – on the streets. They have no access to education or family support and they are condemned to live by deceit, theft and prostitution.

The Consortium for Street Children consists of around 40 British NGOs supporting street children internationally, working in over 70 countries.

Their aims are:

  • to raise the profile of street children issues, politically and in the media
  • to forge closer links between members, helping them to be more effective
  • to share information and research, identifying and promoting good practice
  • to fund the core costs of the CSC and to obtain funds for joint partner projects

For several years, Lions of MD 105 have given their support to a selection of these organisations that give education and life skills to vulnerable children.

Further information about the Consortium can be found on their website: www.streetchildren.org.uk

Edukits – Changing lives through education

Children living through emergencies often lose everything – including hope. By giving them an education we can help to give them a future. Lions Clubs International became formally affiliated with UNICEF in 1994 and, since then, the relationship has grown significantly. However, they need the support of Lions Clubs to continue to fundraise for Edukits, so they can carry on providing essential educational supplies for children living in difficult circumstances.

One Edukit contains enough materials for 80 students, including chalk, school bags, pencils and exercise books, as well as maths charts, an attendance book and teacher’s guides. Each box is tailored individually for use in specific circumstances and costs only £110.

By contributing towards Edukits you can help to bring some sort of normality to children whose short lives have been devastated, either by conflict or natural disaster.
