District 105M Speech & Hearing Officer and
Chairman of Health & Environment Committee.

I joined Wellingborough & District Lions Club in 1981 and have since held every post in the club including current positions as Secretary and Treasurer.

I have held many District positions including Chairman of Communications; Future Planning; and Finance Committees. I have also served as District Officer for LCIF; Public Relations; and Nominations & Resolutions. I was privileged to be elected District Governor of District 105M for the year 1992/93.

I have also served Multiple District 105 for six years on the Public Relations Committee, three as Chairman, and four years on the 1998 International Convention Host Committee as Public Relations Officer.

I am now serving as District 105M Speech & Hearing Officer for my fifth year, together as Chairman of the District Health & Environment Committee.

I have a hearing impairment. I first recognised I had a hearing problem in 1982. However, members of my family questioned my hearing ability many years before then. I believe this makes me an ideal person for this job and I am sure nobody understands the problems, incurred by people with hearing loss, better than I do.

I see my job function as making more people aware of the difficulties encountered by people with hearing loss. The fact is that around 1 in 7 have hearing difficulties, and the number is increasing largely due to people living to a higher age as in many cases hearing difficulties can be age related. About three times a year I publish ‘HEAR THIS’, a newsletter informing Lions of issues relating to Speech & Hearing. Please read it.
