The primary aim of the Hearing Equipment Project is to collect and redistribute all unwanted hearing aids, ancilliary hearing equipment and serviceable batteries. In the majority of cases redistribution is to developing nations, but occasionally there is a need in developed countries.
The scheme is nation-wide, and at the request of the Council of Governors back in 1999 Hasting Lions Club agreed to coordinate the project on behalf of MD105.
Lions Clubs can aid in this project by collecting hearing aids very much like they currently do spectacles. The Lions spectacles bin are now being issued with an appeal for both spectacles and hearing aids.
Collecting points can be many and varied, such as:
- Hospital audiology departments
- Private hearing clinics
- Opticians (they often have a hearing consultant popping in part time)
- Age Concern/Help the Aged/Charity Shops
- Doctors surgeries
We want all surplus hearing equipment, including audiometers, tympanometers, analysers, etc. In this digital age someone's scrap can be very much another overseas person's jewel.
Items can be posted free via an arrangement with Parcelforce. Contact for details.
Lets us not allow any hearing equipment go to waste. To give someone the gift of hearing is a wonderful gesture.
